Work Placement Skills

Learners undertaking work placement have the opportunity to learn and develop the skills they need for the world of work. In order to gain the most from their work placement the learner must be prepared, enthusiastic and motivated.

Course Content at Entry Level:

Preparing for Work Placement: Know key information about the company / organisation where they plan to do work placement; Know what is expected of them during work placement, including hours of work, job roles and attitudes and behaviours; Know what they hope to achieve from the work placement and set appropriate goals to reflect this.

Learning from Work Placement: Gather evidence of tasks undertaken during the work placement; Identify what they learned from the work placement; Be able to use the learning from the work placement to set goals.

Safe Learning in the Workplace: Know the potential risks and hazards in the workplace; Know what responsibilities people have for safety in the workplace; Be aware of the ways in which you can reduce harm to yourself and others; Know how to deal with low risk hazards in the workplace.

Course Content at Level 1

Preparing for Work Placement: Know the function of the company / organisation where they plan to do the work placement; Know what is expected of them during the work placement including hours of work, job roles and behaviours; Prepare a list of goals to help them achieve the most out of the work placement.

Learning from Work Placement: Be able to gather evidence of tasks undertaken during the work placement; Know what they learned from the work placement; Be able to set long and short term goals that build on the skills they gained during the work placement.

Safe Learning in the Workplace: Understand risks and hazards in the workplace; Know how to reduce the risk of harm to self and others; Know what actions can be taken to reduce risks to self and others in the workplace.

Course Content at Level 2

Preparing for Work Placement: Know the key functions of the company / organisation where they plan to do work placement; Know what is expected of them during the placement, including hours of work, roles and responsibilities and behaviours; Prepare a list of goals which includes skills development, to help them achieve the most out of work placement.

Learning from Work Placement: be able to gather information of tasks undertaken on a work placement; Understand what they learned from the work placement and how to contribute to it further for development; Be able to use learning from the work placement to set personal goals.

Safe Learning in the Workplace: Understand risks and hazards in the workplace; Know how to reduce the risk of harm to self and others; Know what actions can be taken to reduce risks to self and others in the workplace.
