Course Aims:

This course will provide the students with the skills and knowledge to perform and practice the best handling techniques when working in childcare.  

Course Contents:  

In recent years, daily childcare has become an extremely popular and rewarding business. However, the responsibilities when dealing with young children can put a strain on the carers, especially as most of their work requires a physical element.

This course is designed with such stresses in mind and will help to keep your child carers safe and happy in their daily duties.

Course Outcomes:

The students will learn and fully understand and be able to discuss all of below:

  • Manual handling legislation, and additional legislation and guidance relating to handling children.
  • Handling policies and procedures.
  • Ergonomics and risk assessments.
  • Safer and team handling, and communication.
  • Demonstrate safe moving of inanimate object (student’s participation), and correct children handling procedures.
  • The nature of handling needs for higher numbers of children and conflicting demands.
  • Common issues related to the manual handling of children and young people.
  • Environmental issues such as indoor and outdoor play.
  • Infection control.
  • Personal emergency evacuation plans.
